They command audiences with a comfortable confidence as they playfully blend elements of folk, pop, rock, jazz, and more…always with tasty grooves and clever rhymes. River’s songwriting strikes a delicate balance of pop-appeal and lyrical substance, often critiquing modern pop-culture through the lens of familiar, traditional folk themes. In 2017, River was named an Iowa Arts Council Fellow for his music. While serving in this honorary position he began work on “As Above, So Below”, an album of original music featuring more than 150 singers/musicians, almost entirely from his home state of Iowa.
